Sep 16, 2015 - You need a copy of Medieval 2 Kingdoms expansion to play this mod. Stainless Steel is for me a dream a fantasy a fantasm a f-in torture of. Stainless Steel was first started as a mod for Medieval 2: Total War (v4.1 and lower), but it switched over to Kingdoms after the expansion was released. It combines bug fixes, many small mods, changes to AI and AI armies, more provinces, graphical improvements and many other campaign and battle map changes in a package aimed at providing a much greater challenge and more enjoyable gameplay.

posted 07 March 2008 01:40 EDT (US) As EoJ is the only person I know of for certain who plays this mod, I suppose this is directed to him. How is Stainless Steel? I'm going to be getting my copies of M2TW and Kingdoms back from home in a little over a week, and I was wondering if I ought to give this mod a try. I've snooped around on twcenter, and it looks pretty impressive. For some reason, I was hesitant to install any mods last time for M2TW, but I think if you give me a good enough account of this one I'll give it a try. Question - Must I unpack the Kingdoms campaigns to use Stainless Steel? Also, are the individual Kingdoms campaigns still playable? (I suppose the question is 'is it a mod switch or not?) posted 30 March 2008 11:53 EDT (US) 26 / 50 The 'reputation destroyed' trait is supposed to stop people sallying out when besieged. The reason for it is that the AI handles sallies by the human player very very badly. So by penalising the sallyer with a horrendously bad trait, it forces players to fight battles out in the province, i.e. intercept the bad guys before they besiege you. I got it because I didn't know about it. Then I did the right thing and got an army from elsewhere to come to their rescue but the other army were reinforcements in the battle causing the trait to stick. The trait also sticks if the sieging army calls off their siege which the AI is prone to do. So I might need to kill my king to keep the nobles loyal. Santiago de Pola Legionary | posted 06 April 2008 09:51 EDT (US) 29 / 50 Just a question about SS mod.. Is there any campaign map AI mod included? That for example improves diplomacy, alliances, composition of AI army stacks..or is it the same like in vanilla? [This message has been edited by Santiago de Pola (edited 04-06-2008 @ 09:52 AM).] |

posted 18 April 2008 18:45 EDT (US) 31 / 50 By all accounts, there is meant to be a stainless steel patch 6.0 out. Is this the case and if so where can it be found? The best I can find is 5.1. Thanks |
posted 20 April 2008 08:56 EDT (US) 32 / 50 Stainless steel 6.0 is not a patch but rather new(and highly anticipated) version of the mod! It is meant to be released this week, but probably won't, cuz it's sunday already! Anyway, should be out pretty soon..and you can check out for the release here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=314 [This message has been edited by Santiago de Pola (edited 04-20-2008 @ 08:58 AM).] |
Sir Ran Harder Legionary | posted 26 April 2008 09:16 EDT (US) 33 / 50 After installing stainless steel 6 and playing it for a few days, I have to say, anyone who has not done this, should do so. The game has everything medieval 2 has got plus a whole load of extras. I can not see me going back to play Medieval 2 again because of this. How popular is stainless steel? Do many people use it? |

posted 27 April 2008 04:10 EDT (US) 35 / 50 As far as I know it's one of the most popular mods, though not as much as retrofit for multiplayer. I'm playing a late 6.0 English campaign, and I'm having so much fun Crusades, for starters are a real race against time, as when I was ordered to do it by the Pope the French, Hungarians, Polish, Spanish (Hell, even the KoJ!) got to Frankfurt first. Mainly because I did't have a spare army, so had to recruit one, but it's still impressive none-the-less. Currently, the KoJ and Egypt are having a right old ding-dong in the desert (Hey, I like that!), with Gaza being the main battleground- the KoJ even marched on Cairo, but got beaten back. Portugal and Spain are nipping at the heels of Cork and Exeter respectivly, so a crusade on Lisbon is going to sort them out. I have a family member I stole from the Geonise taking over coastal Norway (It's a race between me and Denmark), but I'm still getting to grips with the education system. Oh, and I've edited some traits and stuff, just for me. And I shall go Softly into the Night Taking my Dreams As will You |

SwampRat M2TW Ladder Leader | posted 27 April 2008 10:38 EDT (US) 37 / 50 The only thing really holding me back from SS 6 is the money scripts the ai still has. Its all well and good to boost the ai, but when I tried 5.1 it all seemed to be that I struggled for cash (as ever due to the way I play not being as aggressive as a lot of people) but everyone else having boundless wealth - meaning that every turn I ended up selling some sort of diplomatic right for lots of cash which sort of ruined the fun a bit. I've read that the cash situation is better, but I'm still a bit uncertain. It makes blockades, seiges and devastation a lot less useful (although the last one never really seemed to do too much...) |
posted 02 May 2008 09:40 EDT (US) 38 / 50 SS6.0 is a great mod. Maximum amount of units and factions plus a big new map. The America's are gone but you get a lot of new territories in the east back for it. There are still some weird bugs though like the rebelling of AI settlements (the capital often rebels first!). I'm having fun playing as Lithuania right now. The paganism will rule the world. |

posted 03 May 2008 07:04 EDT (US) 41 / 50 After reading that, it seems a challenger appears that could be on par with Europa Barbarorum for RTW which has been the reason I have neglected RTW vanilla and M2TW so I'll be sure to check this out (however only after my AS exams ). Though, I already have Retrofit installed (so with the game files unpacked), and I have not backed up a copy of my M2TW folder, does this mean a lenghty reinstallion of a 'clean' (mod free) copy of M2TW and Kingdoms will be needed for SS to run smoothly? posted 03 May 2008 08:07 EDT (US) 42 / 50 No- all kingdoms mods as far as I know are mod-switch, and end up in the 'mod' folder. I've got about 3 or 4 installed on mine And I shall go Softly into the Night Taking my Dreams As will You |
posted 03 May 2008 16:02 EDT (US) 43 / 50 Hey all. I just started with Stainless Steel today, after installing the 6.1 patch. I have a question that I can't seem to answer anywhere. How do you move a title from one character to another? I hear it's possible, but I'm trying every which way to do it and cannot. This goes for titles associated with regions as well as various honors the king can pass out to generals to boost loyalty, etc. Thanks as always. |
posted 03 May 2008 17:04 EDT (US) 44 / 50 Ok, these two characters have to be in the same settlement, or part of the same army. Open the info scroll for the character who has what you want to transfer, find his title or ancillary character in the boxes on the left side. Click and drag this title over to the unit card of the character you want to send it to. If done properly, you should get a news scroll that says your man acquired such-and-such an object/person. posted 04 May 2008 03:16 EDT (US) 45 / 50 Be aware, though, it's very likely that if that was the person's only title, they'll get a 'Title Stolen!' trait, which has lower loyalty. And I shall go Softly into the Night Taking my Dreams As will You |
posted 04 May 2008 03:38 EDT (US) 46 / 50 ok, so i downloaded the mod. will i still be able to play normally with it installed? |
posted 04 May 2008 10:10 EDT (US) 47 / 50 Thanks, Ibuprofen. I've sent my Venetian king on a 10-region 'world tour' to pass out a bunch of party favors. Hmm, EoJ. That can put one in a catch-22. I had to take the Corinth title away from one general and give it to the king because it has a decreased loyalty aspect--which, in turn, may make this general a bit upset. Ouch, but they are touchy. |
posted 04 May 2008 12:12 EDT (US) 48 / 50 Caveman- Yes, you can. Hmm, EoJ. That can put one in a catch-22. I had to take the Corinth title away from one general and give it to the king because it has a decreased loyalty aspect--which, in turn, may make this general a bit upset. Ouch, but they are touchy.I think the key thing here is 'may make' the generallose lyalty, wheras the title definatly loses loyalty. You also have to think carefully about this kind of thing when capturing Jerusalem, too, as AFAIK the 'King of Jerusalem' title is the largest loss of loyalty in the game. You either marry them to a daughter, kill them, or get someone so hugh in loyalty they'll shrug the loss off. It's quite interesting. Oh, BTW, there's a bug-fix knocking around somewhere. Among other things, it fixes a bug which I've recently noticed that, in late campaign, there are no historical messages past turn 8, thanks to a typo. That means no gunpowder, Tirumids, or anything else. Currently I'm trying to work out the typo so I can carry on with my present campaign- I've allready had to restart it as I changed the files a bit too much. And I shall go Softly into the Night Taking my Dreams As will You |
posted 04 May 2008 14:40 EDT (US) 49 / 50 The mod keeps crashing when i open the late area campaign. anyone know why? EDIT: Actually it just crashes before i can do anything. why? im going to try a restart. [This message has been edited by Caveman72 (edited 05-04-2008 @ 02:50 PM).] |
posted 06 May 2008 08:13 EDT (US) 50 / 50 Im afraid I dont know about the crash on the stert menu, but my game crashes often on the load screen befire a battle. Is this a problem with stainless steel or a problem with my computer. The load screen freezes up and I cant do anything other than restart my my PC. Can anyone help or offer advice. Thanks |
